What’s Instore For 2024

2024 is going to be an exciting year for our team members and residents of Valerian Court Care Home. Our first twelve months passed quickly. We have met and made new friends, and engaged in wonderful numerous ways with our community and peer homes. Our internal departments;  Care Teams, Kitchen, Activities, Housekeeping and Maintenance Teams have all matured from new departments and are now striving, growing and certainly flourishing depts that have all contributed to the high standards of care and service expected at Valerian Court Care.

We're planning to open the third floor of our home, which will open another household of beautiful rooms for new residents and by the summer we hope to have all four households open with a vibrant diverse community of well cared for residents.

As well as continuing to welcome music and fitness sessions, which started in 2023 we will be inviting new dedicated and passionate performers to entertain, encourage and involve us with meaningful activities to enhance our lifestyles here at the care home. This past week alone we had great fun with KelBilly Stomp a deo who we will certainly be seeing again.

We have increased the frequency of Stu-Fitness visits to twice a month, Stuart brings Seated Zumba Gold to us, this is a favourite among our residents, so we've listened to their demands and have scheduled more frequently.

We have some great plans to enrich our care home and make the best use of the different facilities and areas that we have; we want to make outdoor spaces more inviting, whether residents want to watch the trains go by from our shaded garden or soak up some rays on the terrace while attending raised flower beds.

Last year residents enjoyed watching the life cycle of caterpillars and releasing butterflies, we will repeat this activity and plan to hatch some chick or duckling eggs within the home. We hope these activities will capture the interest of many residents and be the basis of linked activities. There are many benefits of pet and animal therapy to residents within a care home, so we're excited to complete these activities in 2024.

We are looking to add to our existing team of volunteers will be important during 2024. It is lovely to receive support from friends and family who want to share their skills. We will continue to support youngsters to develop skills during their work experience and Duke of Edinburgh programmes.

We will always welcome new volunteers for any amount of time they are able to offer, whether they want to sit with residents chatting playing cards or working on a jigsaw or if they want to be more active, supporting outings, part of an outdoor space enrichment project or a keen crafter.

Volunteers do not have to have existing links to Valerian Court, we are keen to make more connections with our local community. If you are interested in volunteering at our home, contact our team of experts or call 01235 616800.
