Outings at Valerian Court
We have been getting out and about in our new van over the past few weeks, visiting Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary, where the residents chose to adopt Monty ensuring that we’ll make regular visits to see him and his friends.
We had a wonderful time singing along with Hendred Ukelale Group at The Harwellian during the monthly Music for Memories café.
Music for Memories café is a dementia support activity that combines the power of music and the warmth of community to create a truly enriching experience. This social event is designed specifically for individuals living with memory loss and their loved ones. The café hosts regular musical performances, featuring talented musicians who play a variety of instruments and perform cherished songs from yesteryears. The melodic tunes evoke nostalgia and spark joy, triggering precious memories for those with dementia. The live band provides a wonderful atmosphere for visitors and encourages conversations, laughter, and heartfelt connections, rekindling the joy of shared experiences.
Residents also went to see some work by local artists at the Earth Trust during Oxfordshire Artweeks. Residents enjoyed getting out and admiring the paintings and photography on display.
In May, we also had a lovely weekend marking the Coronation of King Charles III. Residents watched the television coverage of proceedings and ate coronation quiche among many other delightful treats.
On the Bank Holiday, we held a “Brunch Fit For a King” and welcomed family and friends of residents along with staff, their partners and children. Lots of bacon rolls and pastries were consumed and everyone was in good spirits. It is a delight to be able to hold events like this which bring families together.
We look forward to hosting many more events in the summer months.
