Celebrating St Patrick’s Day in True Irish Style

There was a real buzz around Valerian Court this March as we came together to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. The event was inspired by a recent residents’ meeting, where several residents expressed their wish to mark the day with a proper celebration. With several Irish residents among us, it felt especially important to recognise and embrace their culture – and what a wonderful day it turned out to be.

We were thrilled to welcome children from the O’Gara School Irish Dance group, who treated us to an hour of fantastic entertainment. Their energy, enthusiasm and dazzling footwork brought such joy to everyone watching. There’s something so special about having young visitors in the home – the connection between the generations was clear as residents beamed throughout the performance. Many said it brought back memories of their own childhoods and family celebrations.

Our care team fully embraced the spirit of the day, donning green outfits and decorations to match. From shamrocks to sparkles, Valerian Court was full of colour and life. Our talented chef made sure to embrace the event through a themed dining experience with a traditional Irish stew, served hot and hearty, followed by a warming Irish coffee. It was the perfect way to round off the afternoon - the delicious smells wafting through the home added to the atmosphere, and our residents had a great time chatting and eating with their friends and family.

Beyond the food and dancing, the event gave us a real chance to open our doors to the wider community. Families, friends and neighbours joined us, taking the opportunity to connect with our residents and to experience the warm, welcoming environment that they enjoy every day. These moments are extremely valuable to us because they allow our residents to meet new people, celebrate their culture and help us continue to build strong links in the Didcot community.

The day was a celebration of culture, togetherness and the little things that make life special. From the sound of tapping shoes to hearty laughter, there was a real sense of joy and connection throughout. We’re so proud to be a home that listens to its residents and brings their ideas to life.

If you're looking for a care home in Didcot that not only provides residents with exceptional care but also a lifestyle full of the things that they love most, get in touch with us at Valerian Court. We would love to show you our beautiful facilities and find out more about how we can provide the highest quality of life to you or your loved ones.
