At Valerian Court Care Home, we are always looking for ways to bring joy, comfort, and new experiences to our residents. This month, we were delighted to welcome back the much-loved Dinky Ponies for another heart-warming visit. Their presence has become a highlight of our events calendar, and it’s no surprise why – the happiness they bring is simply priceless.

The visit was led by Poppy the pony, whose calm, gentle nature instantly put everyone at ease. Residents were able to stroke her soft coat, chat with her handlers, and enjoy her peaceful presence, creating precious moments that we know will be cherished. Whether they just sat quietly with Poppy or actively interacted with her, each resident was able to engage with the visit in their own meaningful way.

What makes the Dinky Ponies so special to us at Valerian Court is their inclusivity. Thanks to Poppy’s ability to access all areas of the home, every resident was able to join in, regardless of their care needs. Whether they receive residential care, nursing care, or are living with dementia, the joy and excitement were plain to see. The ponies’ visits are especially wonderful for residents who may find it difficult to join other activities; Poppy brought the experience directly to them, ensuring that no one was left out.

The event also offered a fantastic opportunity for families, carers, and staff to come together and share in a positive, uplifting day. Seeing the smiles on residents’ faces and hearing the laughter as they interacted with Poppy was truly heart-warming. For many, animals have a special ability to bring calm and comfort, and the connection between our residents and Poppy was a beautiful reminder of that.

Activities like pet therapy are an important part of life at Valerian Court. They are not only fun and engaging but also offer proven benefits to mental and emotional well-being. The presence of animals can reduce stress, promote communication, and encourage a sense of calm and companionship, particularly for those living with dementia. Seeing our residents light up with happiness is the greatest reward and shows just how much these visits mean to them.

We are incredibly grateful to the team at Dinky Ponies for their kindness and dedication in making these visits so special. Their commitment to ensuring everyone feels included and involved is something we deeply value and we can't wait until Poppy and her friends come for their next visit!
